Andrew Ward is the Founder and CEO of Acadiana Veteran Alliance, which works to improve outcomes for post-9/11 veterans and their families through its WORK, HEAL, and GIVE programming.

Founded in 2020, AVA’s goal is to reduce underemployment in the veteran community by connecting them to better career opportunities, and address combat-related PTSD through its medical and behavioral health partnerships.

In 2021, Andrew was named as a Scholar and graduate of the Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program from the Bush Institute, a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at individuals serving our Nation’s veterans who are motivated to broaden their skillsets, knowledge, and influence across the country.

Most recently, Andrew founded “The Boot” in conjunction with the Governor’s Office and Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, a veteran-focused non-profit organization dedicated to statewide economic development through recruitment and retention of transitioning military members both in Louisiana and across the United States.

“The Boot” is a new initiative that grew out of the Military Affairs Transition Team meetings to address the attrition rate of military members after their service time in Louisiana.

Andrew is a Graduate from University of Louisiana at Lafayette with Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, and a Veteran and Infantryman of the Louisiana Army National Guard, with commendations and decorations from Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004-2005).

Gary James “Bubba” Viator II

Chief Operating Officer

BOOT-240712-5623-4@2x

Sergeant Viator

Navy | Petty Officer 2nd Class

“Bubba” joined in August 2009, where he started boot camp and technical training at Great Lakes Naval Base. In February 2010, he was shipped to San Diego for his first duty station, The USS Rentz (FFG-46). Also in 2010, he married his high school sweetheart, and in 2011, his first child Lawton was born. Bubba deployed for a six month counter-narcotics deployment to Central and South America.

In 2013, on his next deployment, his second son, Henry (“Hank”), was born, and after almost seven months, Bubba met him for the first time. By April 2014, Bubba got his orders to Riverine Squadron 4 (Little Creek, VA). He deployed for eight months to the Middle East in 2015 and earned his Expeditionary Warfare Insignia. August 2015, Bubba left active duty with honorable discharge after six years of service. He and his family came back to Southwest Louisiana (SWLA) where Bubba went to work in the Industrial sector as both a safety manager and finally as an industrial account manager.

After seeing a gap in SWLA, Bubba decided to throw a Veterans Day BBQ in 2015. This event led to the formation of SWLA Veterans Association and went from 26 veterans to having a reach of more than 1,300 veterans on social media and countless others who have participated and volunteered.

This began a tradition of the annual SWLA Veterans Day BBQ (which saw some 400 veterans and their families at the Lake Charles Event Center in 2023), monthly social events for veterans, community clean ups in and around SWLA, repairing the homes of veterans in need, and many other initiatives in and around SWLA to better the lives of our veterans. This love and dedication always pushed him to want to do more, always stating “if I could get paid to help veterans, it would be a dream job.” Through God’s plan, this opportunity presented itself with The Boot.

As The Chief Operations Officer (COO), Bubba will lead program delivery and Operations Team personnel management. The COO is responsible for developing and delivering all tactical and operational aspects of The Boot’s organizational mission, vision, and goals. Committees/Boards:

  • Founder/President SWLA Veterans Association- 2015-2024
